Privacy Policy
Effective: August 20, 2026
The short version
Sonimeter has no server, no account, no analytics SDK, and no advertising. Everything stays on your device. We cannot see your data because we never receive it.
What Sonimeter processes
- Microphone audio — processed in real time to compute sound levels (dB). Raw audio is never stored unless you explicitly tap "Record a Clip."
- Sound clips — up to 30 seconds, up to 3 stored, foreground only with a visible indicator. Clips stay in the app sandbox, are excluded from iCloud backup, and are never transmitted anywhere.
- Measurement sessions — start time, duration, statistical levels (LAeq, Lmax, etc.), and per-second dB values. Stored locally in SwiftData.
- Calibration records — device model, microphone route, calibration constant K, and calibration method. Stored in UserDefaults on device.
- Health data — if you enable it, Sonimeter writes environmental sound levels to Apple Health. This requires your explicit permission and Pro. Sonimeter reads Apple Watch noise samples solely to assist calibration.
- Device model identifier — used to look up microphone calibration seeds. This never leaves the device.
What Sonimeter does NOT collect
- No location data — region is determined from your device settings, not GPS
- No analytics or telemetry
- No crash reporting SDK
- No advertising identifiers
- No user accounts or email addresses
- No server-side processing of any kind
Third-party services
Apple — StoreKit for in-app purchases and HealthKit for Health integration. Both are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Sonimeter does not use any other third-party service.
Data retention
All data is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes everything. There is nothing to delete on our side because we never had it.
Children
Sonimeter does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require an account or collect personal information.
Recording laws
Sonimeter displays region-specific recording law warnings based on your device's region setting. This is informational only and does not constitute legal advice. Consult local law before recording in your jurisdiction.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
